IMPORTANT NOTE: Change in race format of Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2010

We have decided to change the race format originally detailed in Chapter 2 of the rules, Articles 118 and 119.

The race format will now be 4 laps for both vehicle categories, but the number of attempts will be increased to 5. The time limits will be revised to 28 and 23 minutes for the UrbanConcept and Prototype cars respectively, with UrbanConcept cars having to stop for 10 seconds at the end of each lap.

This change is to reduce congestion and logistics issues for a driver change, and also make it easier for teams (less drivers, less costs for uniforms).

NOTE: The reason for the driver change originally outlined in Chapter 2 of the rules was to reduce heat stress on the drivers since they would be driving under the hot sun in a small enclosed vehicle with very little ventilation and no air conditioning. Cockpit temperatures of 40°C are a possibility (depending on vehicle design). Therefore we would like to advise teams that, with the extended running time per driver, teams should ensure good ventilation and drinking water for the driver during the competition.

NOTE 2: The organisers reserve the right to make changes to the race format DURING THE EVENT in the interest of driver safety.
